Life is good!

I've been a mad cleaning woman as we prepare to celebrate our early Thanksgiving with my sweet hubby's father, four of his seven siblings, and one sister-in-law this coming Sunday and Monday!  I cannot tell you how excited I am!!!  *sigh*

The last time this particular group of 'Ohana gathered here at our home was when I was out-of-state for the birth or our grandson, Henry!  Speaking of Henry, I had a surprise Skype call from Henry's mommy this afternoon and was able to catch up with his milestones, peek into his big blue eyes, and be mesmerized by his precious little smile!

Henry and Mommy took me outside for a tour of the fabulous garden the kids planted in the Spring of this year and the new deck that April's awesome hubby built off the room I stayed in while visiting!  My heart was filled to overflowing and I had a smile on my face all day while cleaning house!  *big smile*

This has been an incredible week and it is definitely going to end with a bang!  I hope y'all have had an amazing week as well and it is my wish that you enjoy this little gift by way of an add-on to A Special Weekend (Fall Edition).

Ready ... Set ... Scrap!!!

(double-click on the gray box!)

Please feel free to share by way of the social media buttons below.  I shall greatly appreciate it!

Thank you for visiting me today and keep on scrapping happy!

Google Doodle Celebrates Julia Child's 100th Birthday!
Experience life with Julia through a tribute written by Suzy
Davidson, Executive Director of the Julia Child Foundation
and the creation of one of Google's latest doodles by
Willie Real - Doodler  HERE

Warning - long post!  Grab a snack and something to drink.  I wouldn't wish anyone to pass out at the computer!  *giggling*  Just kidding!  Hold your breath twice and swallow three times and you'll be finished!  *wink*

The woman I dub Queen of culinary skills, who first studied French cooking at the Le Cordon Bleu Cooking School in France after moving there with her husband, and who wished us an enjoyable meal by way of her delightful rendition of "Bon Appetit" at the end of her television segments, would have been a century old Wednesday, August 15th.  Nonetheless, Julia Child is ever present among us in spirit and through her incredible legacy.  Surely Ms. Julia shall go down in history as one of the, if not the most, important persons to have had such a profound effect in American kitchens by taking our culinary skills to a new level, and teaching us to laugh at ourselves when we make a mistake.  "Remember, there is no one in the kitchen but you", Mrs. Child would say!  I dare say, we've not looked back and are still moving forward in our kitchen expertise while producing a fine group of Master Chefs who continue to come forth in mighty numbers, both male and female!

How has Julia Child influenced your life, either directly or indirectly?

Why am I posting about the 100 year celebration of the author of Mastering the Art of French Cooking?

The reason is two-fold.

First and foremost, I enjoyed watching Mrs. Child over a span of several decades off-and-on. Standing 6'2" tall, possessing a unique and unmistakable voice that captivated an audience, as well as her incredible sense of humor while cooking in the kitchen, Julia Child was difficult to pass over.  My desire to be more versatile in the kitchen as a young married woman is mostly attributed to Julia Child, followed only by my very first cookbook from Betty Crocker.  Yes, I still own that very cookbook today, which is now accompanied by a collection of many others, and most likely has acquired some dust since I now pin recipes on Pinterest!  He, he ...

It would be unfair and unkind of me not to mention that I came from the home of two incredibly talented cooks.  My father, known to his patrons as The Singing Chef while owner/head chef/bartender (does this remind you of the phrase, chief cook and bottle washer?) at his own restaurant, prior to my birth in the early 1950s, was a gourmet cook.  Oh, how I remember the rich and filling meals of Lobster Thermidor (a French dish) and my favorite desert, Baked Alaska!  My stepmother, born and raised in the South, magically spread our table with Southern fried chicken, fresh vegetables from a garden growing in our backyard, and cornbread made in a cast iron skillet to name a very few.  Naturally, I learned to cook at a young age and was summoned to help in the kitchen on a regular basis by the time I was a teenager.

Skillful meal preparation is a family heritage, which has now continued into the third generation that I am aware of.  All six of my children (2 girls, 4 boys) can and do make magic happen in the kitchen!

Secondly, my design name, Bon Scrapatit Designs, came about from my nightly food prep and delivery to our two outdoor family members, Chloe (after the French perfume) and Max (meaning, the greatest).  My evening ritual included some petting and a kiss on the bridge of each of their noses, followed by an exuberant outburst of, Bon Appetit, inspired by none other than Julia herself (I can hear her voice each time I say it)!  The light bulb came on (it actually does light up on occasion!) and this particular evening, I found the ingredients for my passionate desire to cook up some delicious digital scrapbooking goodness and gave myself the name, Bon Scapatit Designs!  Loosely translated, Bon Scrapatit would mean, enjoy your scrapping or happy scrapping!

Do y'all remember the beginning of Bon Scrapatit Designs in June of 2007?

My original blog banner minus a wee bit of verbiage!
Background photo was taken in the sweet village
of Capranica, Italy during my one-month stay the end
of 2000 into the beginning of 2001.

Do you remember when avatars were a hot trend?  Oh my.  I employed the services of a well-known designer some five years ago and was so thrilled at what (or who) she had created! Naturally, I was taking on the image of an, obviously, confused Italian Signora secretly desiring to be French with a zest for life and a true passion to share my creations with scrapbookers across the globe.  You could say that my mantra was along the line of, leaving no scrapper behind!  It has truly been my heart's desire that any one who wishes to be able to preserve their family's most precious and priceless memories should, indeed, be able to do so.

I really had no idea how well received this ... Signora would be!  She was fresh, vibrant and filled with recipes for preserving memories.  It was difficult to give up this charming persona during a blog redo a few years back, however, she is still very much alive within my soul!

Where is Bon Scrapatit Designs today?

While the menu here at Bon Scrapatit Designs has seemingly all but disappeared, my somewhat dormant designing skills have made an appearance bi-monthly for the blog train I, along with nearly 100 other designers, participate in.  Each time I would post my contribution to the blog train, I would wholeheartedly expect to return full-time, but to no avail!

What y'all did not know, prior to this posting, was that my dearly beloved had been out of work for nearly two years, until recently.  It just hit me, upside the head, one night last week that my inability to be here consistently leaned very much on the fact that my husband and I were together 24/7.  Hey, on the upside of that, we are both still very much alive, in love, and my sweet man is now happily employed!  Woot, woot ... yeah!   Yes, and we are both living proof that what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!  *heartily laughing*

With a few other important family needs tossed into the mix, my intermittent health issues, plus the recent 100 degree temps inside of our home (cooler was on the fritz and we were awaiting a new motor) this past week, I am finally beginning to adjust to Robert's new hours and find myself some sort of a new routine.  Now that the heat has, for the most part, found it's way out of my office space, things should become much easier in my transition!  He, he ...

Having been given designer wings and set into flight sooner than I had anticipated back in June 2007, I feel as though I've spent more time trying to catch up over the years than having the ability to work ahead.   I am hoping to change that!

Adapt.  Overcome.  Improvise.  Three powerful words written on a chalkboard by Robert's #2 son, Joshua (an ex-Marine with three deployments to the Middle East) and the topic of many a conversation with my father-in-law, who is retired from the Navy!  Thank you Josh and Poppa!

What does the future hold for Bon Scrapatit Designs?

Another transformation is in the making!  It is quite fascinating to watch the marketplace (thank you Pinterest!) and to see before my eyes the many changes, from the geometric shapes in design to new forms of typography and graphic art.  When one is as far removed as I have been for so long, it can be a little overwhelming, if not down right intimidating ... for a brief time.  Key word, brief!  I have adapted.  I am overcoming.  I shall improvise!

I would not be who, nor where I am in the digital scrapbooking industry if not for each and every one you!  My early days here at Bon Scrapatit Designs were driven by my fellow digiscrappers from around the world - y'all!  Unfortunately, life this side of the screen had temporarily robbed me of much of that drive, but all things for a purpose.  I love a good challenge and I have come to know myself as both a fighter and a survivor with an incredibly determined spirit.  I am sure a good many of you can speak the same of yourselves, as we all have a story or two to tell. What better way to tell them than on the pages of our scrapbooks!

I shall also be embarking, at last, on my own journey of preserving memories once again!  I have recently taken a dive back into the genealogy research pool, head first!  I am loving every new little tidbit of information I come across.  I, of course, will share with you all from time-to-time and might just pick your brains (remember, mine is now fried from the heat wave!) for some information regarding your own experiences!  *smile*

I am also working on a new website!  I will post in the future to let you know what you will need to do to keep following along when I leave Blogger and move over to Wordpress.  This blog will remain intact here on Blogger, however, I shall not be moving all of it's content.  I am going to start fresh, with the exception of a very few items, such as tutorials!

There will also be a newsletter forth coming!  I find this to be a more effective way to get news out quickly so you won't miss new product, giveaways, sales, special events or something time sensitive that might otherwise be missed due to feed not being picked up and/or delivered in time!  And yes, there will be special gifts for newsletter subscribers only too!  *smile*

This coming week, I will finally be adding product to my MyMemories shop and come the first of September, another blog train will be departing.  This one shall not only inspire me, but you as well!  You won't wish to miss it.  *big smile*

How timely for Julia Child's 100th birthday to be celebrated this week!  It was just what I needed to jump back in here and let y'all know where I've been and where I am headed.  I miss designing.  I miss scrapping.  I miss chatting with you!

Summer time slows things down quite a bit here in Scrapland and I am hoping to accomplish enough to be a little more present come the holidays so as to share some goodies with you!

Hmm.  You know my having been away this long, I cannot leave you without a little something, right?  Uh, huh.  You would be 100% correct!  I thought I'd pack up the chalkboard journals shown above for y'all to use on your scrapbook pages.  Or, you can print them out to use in a mini-album, for note cards or adhere a magnetic strip on the backside and put them on the refrigerator with a list of things that you might be learning to adapt to, etc.

I had fun playing in Photoshop and creating my own chalkboard background.  I still wish to create more when I have a bit of time to experiment.  My attention has definitely been captured and the creative juices have begun to flow!  I'm so happy!  *big grin*

Summer vacations are coming to an end with many students already in school and more to follow.  Have an amazing weekend everyone.  Go out and make more fabulous memories for lots of cold-weather scrapping this Fall and Winter!  Naturally, this will not apply to those of you already enjoying Winter!  *wink*

What has been your most memorable experience so far this Summer (or Winter?)

Thank you so much for your continued support!

Bon Scrapatit!

I was blessed twice within nine minutes!

Today, I am recovering from an amazing weekend with family and sitting here with y'all reminiscing the birth of the youngest of my six children, twins Luke and John.  They are 23 years young as of 4:54 (Luke) and 5:03 (John) am this morning!  Carried full-term and weighing in at six pounds, 14 ounces and six pounds, two ounces respectively, my baby boys were two precious little bundles of baby boy joy who have both become amazing young men and wonderful human beings.  For that, I am forever thankful and I love them beyond measure!

I am listening to Chicago as I type this post.  Yes, while I don't really claim favorites, Saturday night while watching and listening to them in concert (along with the Doobie Brothers), I did, indeed, declare my heart loyal to the years and decades that they have provided me (and the rest of the world) with some incredibly amazing talent and fond memories.  I am a sucker for brass, especially the saxophone, followed very closely by a full-fledged drum solo!  These gentleman have not lost their touch with wowing a crowd.  I stood in awe of the reception they received from the large gathering of fans and, naturally, a standing ovation at the end!  I captured much of it all on video to remember all the rest of my days!  *wink*

Those of you who have read my posts over the past three to four years might remember when I posted a music widget with a playlist filled with Chicago songs along with my free Saturday in the Park scrapkit and extras.  I was amazed to find how many of you would listen throughout the day as you did your housework or while scrapping on the computer.  They truly have appealed to many generations, haven't they?

Wishing everyone a most glorious week!  It's only the beginning of what I want to feel forever ... *big smile*

coordinating camp cluster freebie and a little picture story ...

>> Wednesday, July 4, 2012

I mentioned I would be telling y'all the inspiration behind the tire swing that I just had to include in my contribution to the July 2012 Blog Train.  Here's my story ...

To go shopping in Sonora from where we live in Copperopolis, we must cross the bridge you see in the photo above.  Even though we have to travel a minimum of 20-30 minutes to shop retail stores(we do have a lovely full-service market in town) such as Walmart, Lowe's, Kohl's and a few others, we enjoy our drives immensely!  What is not to love about driving in less than minimal traffic and ogling a breathtaking view along the way?  Not a thing!

With summer in full swing, no pun intended, on our return trip home from Sonora, it is not unusual to see cars parked bumper-to-bumper off the road just before the bridge.  There is a trail that goes up the mountain and it also leads to a very special tree!  This tree has been used for as long as I've lived here (17 years), to accommodate a rope swing from what, apparently, has been a very reliable and sturdy branch that hangs out over the water.  Might I say, instant refreshment on one of our notoriously hot, triple-digit afternoons!  Yup!  And people will climb out of the water and hike back up the hill to take the plunge over-and-over again!  Ah, to be so young and carefree. *smile*

When I was growing up, I loved inner tubes both in the water and hanging from a tree!  Those were some fun times for sure and it is pretty common place to find tire swings in more rural areas aka country, such as where we live or even back in the day when swing sets were not a modern convenience in every backyard.  I guess that would be way back because my brother and I did have a swing set in our backyard and that was in the 50s!

Photos taken by me using my Samsung Galaxy S2 mobile phone and processed
with an Android app from Google Play called BeFunky using the Vibrance effect.
I then created a collage from four photos using another wonderful app for Android,
PhotoGrid.  Both apps used are free!  Have I mentioned that I am hooked on
Instagram?  That is an whole 'nuther story! *wink*

I'm sure y'all have noticed the, "No Jumping or Diving From the Bridge" sign as well, eh? Now, most of us have at some point in our lives come to the conclusion that it is human nature to do the exact opposite of what we've been told not to do.  Case in point.  How many times has someone said, "don't look!" and your immediate reaction is to ... what?  Uh, huh.  You look! I know I have and I am generally very good about following directions!  *wink*  There is just something that takes place in the human brain that has us doing the opposite when it comes to "No" and "Don't"!  For the most part, we get better about controlling that urge to look as we get older.  I think.  Don't we?  He, he ...

Well, you just know that lovely piece of concrete that connects us to the other side of the lake has been host to many a diver and/or jumper!  I have witnessed it with my own eyes on more than one occasion.  Thank goodness I never witnessed my own children jumping, as my youngest son (twin turning 23 this month) has just informed me that he and, most likely, all three of his brothers have, indeed, taken the leap!  Having been a single mother to two girls and four boys (mostly the boys), I will adamantly state right here and now that I am thankful there were a few things I was oblivious to.  I mean, after all, didn't I teach them to use common sense and to obey the laws of the land?  *rolling eyes*

Specs for this collage are the same as above, but with better views of our beautiful
Lake Tulloch!  This is North Shore where you will find Lake Tulloch Resort and
Drifter's Marina.  Traveling west on Hwy 108 and tucked away in the outskirts of the
quaint town of Oakdale (home to a large Hershey's plant/store until just a few years ago
and yes, we toured the facilities a couple of times and left with our free candy bars!)
is South Shore, which houses Lake Tulloch RV Campgrounds and Marina.  Lots of
history in this part of the Motherlode.  We are also about a hour and half's drive
from Yosemite National Park.  Robert and I hope to be taking another road trip soon, as
it has been nearly two years since venturing out in that direction.  Here's hoping that
gas prices keep going down!  *wink*

For those of you with grown children, what are some of the events that you might be thankful to have found out when they were older rather than at the actual time they occurred?  Have you documented or scrapped those events?  To those who have yet to have a family or whose family is still growing and/or young, what might you wish never to know, if anything at all?

Today, I leave you with a sweet (or should that be, swinging!) little cluster featuring my favorite piece in my contribution to the July Blog Train - the tire swing!

I hope that you are enjoying your trip down the July Blog Train track through Scrapland thus far and are finding lots of treasures to help you preserve your summer memories!

Have an amazing rest of the week everyone and to all of you here in the USA, may you have a fun, safe and celebratory Fourth of July!

  *Sorry, this link has expired*

If you happen to be out-and-about in Scrapland, come on back to visit me this Friday, July 6th, for a set of 3X4 coordinating journaling cards for your downloading pleasure!

"spring sun and easter fun addon" freebie

>> Monday, April 30, 2012

Product used:  Doodled Arrow RubOn and Word Art
from *Spring Sun and Easter Fun Add-on*
by Bon Scrapatit Designs

Happy Monday y'all!

As promised, I'm back with a little add-on to *Spring Sun and Easter Fun*! (checking pulse and in shock that I'm here ... I am actually here!)

Know what?  I love my peeps!  Yup.  That would be y'all!  *sigh*

A special thank you to my darling granddaughter, Kate (and her mommy) for the use of her sweet little peep loving self this past Easter.  *big smile*

I have not attempted anything hybrid in quite some time and thought printing out the journal cards I've included in the add-on to be a great place to start for a couple of reasons, the most important of which is to make sure that you are getting quality product! *squee*

As declared in my TOU, everything I design is created and saved at 300 ppi (pixels-per-inch) for superior quality printing.  I printed the six journal cards on White Card Stock (110 lb weight) by Georgia-Pacific.  I'm a little embarrassed to admit just how long I've had this, barely, used package!  I can guarantee you that I shall be using it much more often now! *yay*

While I am not officially taking part in Becky Higgins, Project Life, I love the genius behind it and with the sensation the 3X4 journal/fill-in cards have made across Scrapland, I have thought of many uses for these little gems aside from slipping them into photo sleeves:

  • Gift Card (punch a hole through the top and attach to a gift bag or wrapped package with Baker's Twine, ribbon or string)
  • Thank You Card (tuck inside of a purchased or homemade small envelope to mail, hand deliver or place inside of your mailbox to let your mail carrier know what wonderful service they are providing :)
  • Memo/Fancy To-Do List (I'm going to be using mine for this during the month of May!  I already have them cut and stacked on my desk and they look so purdy ;)
  • Dinner Place Cards (conversation starters, share one of your recipes on the back, unleash your creative genius ;)
  • Love Notes (slip one into your hubby's pocket before he leaves for work or into your children's lunch boxes for an extra dose of love and/or encouragement)
  • Inspirational Refrigerator Magnets (print your favorite quote, scripture or motivational message, laminate and use a peel-and-stick magnet or glue one onto the back.  Decorate to your heart's content and give a few as gifts!)
  • Coupons/Rewards (an extra hug, a foot massage, back rub, extra treat,  extra points toward a prize, one less chore, a car wash, solo shopping trip with Mom, a mani-pedi, not to mention multiple uses for homeschooling families :)

I'm sure that y'all have many other fabulous ideas in mind too!  I'd love to hear them. *smile*

Journal Cards are printed out and ready to cut!

Above, you see the journal cards after they have been cut with my
Fiskars 12-inch Cutter.  I was not happy with the job done, but then
I've not used the cutter for quite a long time and even though the
blade cartridge was new when last used, it had some serious
issues.  Come to think of it, my cutter has never cut decent straight
lines.  There has always been a bit of a curve/jag on one end.  Now, I'm
not sure whether the cutter itself has an uneven spot or if I need to
chalk it up to operator error!  *Ha, ha* Anyhoo, they are sweet
nonetheless and I shall definitely have fun using them!  I'd love to
know what your recommendations are for a good quality cutter.

A quick reminder that the May Blog Train departs tomorrow, May 1st!  My post should come through about the same time as this one today.  Hope you enjoy the download!

Have a fabulous week scrapping and making new memories everyone!

Sorry, this link has expired. Will be adding to my shop soon. Thank you for taking the time to stop by!

Bon Scrapatit!

Enjoy and remember, it is scrap-happy hour 24/7 in Scrapland!

timeline madness, are you ready? meet henry and a small gift for y'all!

>> Wednesday, March 14, 2012

Any of you that are regular users of Facebook have surely met the new Timeline, whether it be out of curiosity or the pressure to conform to the soon-to-be automatic conversion!  My dabbling this past week was a bit of both and in doing so, Spring goodies are still forthcoming and, today, I come bearing a smallish gift of a different color and theme.  *waving white flag*

Are y'all caught up in the Timeline madness?

I had been informed the end of last year that our personal Facebook accounts would be converted to the new Timeline the end of December, however, that obviously did not take place.  It still has not!  Hmm ... *wink*

Last week, I read that Fan/Brand Pages will definitely be switched over to the new look the 30th of this month.  I had been working on a fan page for the very near future and am now glad that I had to abandon the project while away for the birth of Henry.  (Yes, my official announcement/introduction of Henry is my new Facebook Timeline Cover!)  There are going to be several changes in addition to the new Timeline feature!  For those of you who are still on the fence and/or have not had the opportunity to really dig into what's to come on your Fan/Brand Pages, here is a link with some great tips and explanations from John Haydon:

Eleven Ways Facebook Page Timelines Change Your Content Strategy

For those who have not yet tackled some Facebook clean up and/or a Timeline cover for your personal Facebook account, Kim Komando is an excellent source of information with her article:

Don't Let Timeline Embarrass You

Anyhoo, I shall believe it when I see it after all of the hype about the change over for personal accounts that, still, has never happened!  On the positive side, I am now prepared for the day they do, indeed, automatically convert our personal Facebook accounts!  *double wink*

What happened to the *Spring Sun and Easter Fun* add-on?

It seems in the mix of my Timeline creativity and doctor appointments this past week, I realized that I have yet to finish furnishing my new computer with all of the necessary goodies to design with!  One of those being, my fonts!  *blush*

I have a few technical issues to tend to the next few days.  Nothing major.  Just my older computer still not being able to stream flash video and my new computer having no sound!  *big hearty chuckle, lest I cry*

My sweet man's suggestion, with a big grin on his face - watch the video on the new computer and listen to the audio from the old one!  By George, in this case Robert, he was on to something.  Well, if only the green screen of video death did not freeze the old system!  He, he ...

A gift for your Timeline ... or not!

Whether you already have a Facebook Timeline Cover and want to share a new arrival or simply wish to collect covers to keep on hand for future updates, the downloadable file below is in PNG format, created at Timeline cover dimensions (851 px X 315 px), which will allow for you to simply add your photos beneath and then save as a JPEG file for uploading to Facebook!  I have added brief instructions on how to use this product, along with a few tips.  They are included on my TOU in PDF format.

If you have any questions, you may ask them in the comment section below or by emailing me at bonscrapatitdesigns (at) gmail (dot) com.

In the event that we are already Facebook friends (I'm not quite sure how I have this set up and whether it is viewable to the public or friends only) and you'd like to see how the Timeline cover actually looks on Facebook, you can check it out here:

https://www.facebook.com/bobbysgirlforever

And, we know that scrapbookers are super creative people who can always find a new use for embellishments, so for those of you who are not on Facebook, you can use this gift in the creation of a small birth announcement, greeting card, or add it to a brag book page!

Bon Scrapatit!

If you like today's gift, please feel free to spread the word by
using the social media buttons of your choice below :)

Thank you!

"winter refresh" is here! are you digging it?

>> Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Grandma's precious little snowbabe, Katelyn Rose at 16 months

Woot, woot ... YEAH!  I made it y'all!

I am posting my preview image and download link for *Winter Refresh* both here and on my prior post.  I just realized that my image will not get picked up on the original January 2012 Blog Train departure post because I had no link attached at the time of posting!  *Oops*

I know that not all of us are experiencing winter at this time, though most of those who visit me are indeed!  So, are you digging it?  LOL!  My thought in asking that particular question is, "Are any of you having to dig your way out of the snow to get to work, take the kids to school, go shopping, etc.?"

We have been very cold here in Northern California with no snow.  Not even a drop of rain since winter officially set in!  However, three of my boys that just left for North Dakota on the 28th of December are finding a bit of a climate change in their new home.  It's been down in the teens with snow.  Brr.

When I thought about our blog theme this month, I could feel the cold air engulfing me as I step out onto our deck.  REFRESH!  There are so many ways for us to refresh ourselves and one of my favorites is to cool down.  Whether it be stepping outside into the brisk air or rinsing off with cold water before stepping out of the shower, I find it so very invigorating!  *smile*

What is your favorite way to refresh yourself?

I hope you find *Winter Refresh* useful for some of your winter scrapping.  The included word art is made up of words that come to mind when I think of how wintertime might refresh us.  *wink*

Again, I apologize for the delay in posting my part of the January 2012 Blog Train.  My computer has just not been cooperating with me and now that I have a few days that will be fairly light-duty, I shall finally be able to set up my new computer that has been sitting here for two weeks!  Nothing techie and new has ever sat that long without me getting my hands on it immediately, so that gives you an idea of how full my days have been!  LOL!  I am sure that y'all can relate, especially this time of the year.

I hope the new year has started out well for everyone and that 2012 brings to each of us all that matters most!  *big smile*

Sorry, this link has expired.  Will be in my shop soon!

merry christmas and a small gift ...

>> Sunday, December 25, 2011

Merry Christmas y'all!

No matter where you may live or how you celebrate this time of the year, from our home to yours, we wish you all a most joyous holiday season, a very Merry Christmas and an incredibly happy, healthy and prosperous New Year in 2012!

Since my last visit, I have been pretty ill (my bad :p) after having pulled an all-nighter to get my portion of the December Blog Train up and running.  The bugs my precious little grandson was carrying decided to take advantage of my compromised immune system and they bit me hard somewhere between 3 and 4:00 am on December 1st!  ROFL!  Ouch!

I think I slept for most of the first two weeks.  After that, it was hit 'n miss.  I'd be feeling decent one day and then could not get up the next, so I listened to my body and simply took it as easy as possible.  Lots of herbal goodies too. *smile*

We celebrated our family Christmas gathering a week early, just as we had our Thanksgiving, and I spent one day decking the halls and the following day cooking, serving and cleaning up!  I was thrilled to have been feeling good enough to pull it all off with the help of my incredibly sweet and most precious man and a few of the boys (yes, they are sweet and precious too!).  So blessed to have them all *sigh*

The photo I used for the frame cluster is of our grandson, Jace.  He spent the night with us after our Christmas dinner on the 17th and waited patiently for Grandma to tell him that it was time to decorate the tree.  Uhm, can we say distractions?  LOL!  I cannot effectively carry on a conversation and a chore at the same time these days.  Fail.

After several inquiries as to when we would be decorating this poor, naked tree and Grandma responding with the same, "as soon as I finish cleaning the kitchen", Jace leans on the counter with his elbow beneath his chin and with a gentle whisper says to me, "I am going to decorate the tree myself".  Oh. My. Gosh.  I about lost it.  I think I did lose it. *big grin*  Are not we constantly amazed at what comes out of the mouths of babes?  Uhm. Yeah!

So, there you have it.  Jace preparing to hang Grandma's favorite ornament.  Okay, I really have several favorites, but this one is really, really special! *wink*  I always think of the song, Silver Bells.  Back in the day, my oldest daughter and I spent many a night in the garage crafting.  Yup.  I actually created and sold at craft fairs and consignment-type stores.  I forget what they were called, but it was a shop that would rent out space by taking a certain percentage of your sales each month.  It was short-lived as we moved here to Copper just a few months later.  I eventually found a spot here in town, but that was short-lived as well when the owner decided not to use his shop for anything other than what he was selling!  Understood. *smile*  Anyhoo, my daughter would glue and glitter the ornament bases and I would decorate them.  What a team.  My oldest son just mentioned to me the other day that my 'ol crafting days brought back very fond memories for him.  *heart. skipping. beat.*

I do have a crafter's heart.  I just lack the time and space to accommodate my stock of supplies!  Someday ... maybe. *chuckle*

I hope everyone's hearts are overflowing and ready to take on the new year with all it has to give.  I love renewals and/or fresh starts!  So, be prepared for the upcoming departure of the January Blog Train, which shall be making it's way through Scrapland on January 1, 2012!  There, I said it.  WOOT!  I guarantee you shall refresh your digiscrapping supplies! *wink*

My small gift today is the frame cluster at the top of my post (preview below).  I will also be giving you a few flowers along with the leaves, newsprint postage frame and a couple of grunge prints this coming week, God willing.  If you have not already dowloaded *Holiday Traditions*, you can find the link on my sidebar beneath the preview image.  It will be available for downloading until the departure of the January Blog Train.

Don't forget to board the January Blog Train on New Year's Day, Januay 1, 2012! *big, big grin*

Thanking you all from the depths of my being for your continued support over the past year and here is to a more productive year for us all come 2012!

Oh, oh, OH!  And I shall reply to each comment left for the December Blog Train.  That is a given *smile*

holiday traditions ... dec 2011 blog train has departed!

>> Thursday, December 1, 2011

This was the first time all six of my children were together at our home in just a little over
two years.  I am so hoping that we are all able to follow through with our bi-annual
gatherings, *sigh*  It surely does a Mama's heart good.  Speaking of which, I need to
work on a plan to visit my mama!  Just in case you see this Mom, I love and miss you
dearly and I really do hope to see you soon - XOXO
Hi y'all!

Happy December and here we go, continuing the holiday season!!!  Hope everyone here in the states had a fabulous Thanksgiving no matter where you were or who you were with.  *smile*

Extra blessings were flowing this year as my daughters flew in from Washington (with grandson, Henry, in utero and my darling granddaughter, Katelyn, whom I've not seen for nearly 1-1/2 years!) and Matt, my oldest son, met up with my oldest daughter and her husband,  having come in from Dutch Harbor, Alaska and spending a few days with them,  then finding an extra seat on the same flight here to California!  Smooth move *happy dance*

I apologize for being a wee bit late.  I decided to scrap a layout using my mini-kit contribution for this month's blog train and it was a good thing I did!  I had a plan for that  P.R.I.C.E.L.E.S.S. tag and it was no where to be found - ROFL!  Argh!  Ah, yah, how about getting a little sleep there Linda.  An oxygen deprived brain is not the best way to get 'er done!  He, he ...

You should be coming in this afternoon (evening, night or morning too :) from ...

Your next stop on this amazing digital scrapbooking train is ...

If you are following the list from (or just in case you get lost along the way) ...
THE BLOG TRAIN BLOG ... well, then you are a little over three-quarters of the way through this massive haul with 90 designers contributing!  *Woot, woot ... yeah!*  You can also take a peek at all of the contributions on The Blog Train Blog's lovely slideshow!

I know it is a long ride and as always, please give it at least a full 24 hours for everyone to get their files uploaded and links posted as we are participating from all across the globe *big grin*

For those who might remember me (LOL!), I am finally gifting myself with a new computer this Christmas as I struggle to get anything accomplished with only 3 GBs of RAM powering PSCS 4!  Can we say S.L.OW.?  I will catch you up just as soon as humanly possible and I even have some photos to share.  *Yay*

I will also be adding some journal strips and/or word art and a few more embellishments to *{Holiday} Traditions* over the course of the next week.  You would think that the kiddos all dressed especially for this color palette, but they did not.  Imagine my surprise when I started working with the group photo, which I did not have time to enhance as I had hoped to, and realized they all coordinated with *{Holiday} Traditions*!  Outstanding *big smile*  So, naturally, I am going to scrap some of our Thanksgiving photos!

I did alter the hue of the blue jeans a bit to better match the blue in the palette *wink*

We are doubling up the end of this year and will have another train ride come January 1st!  Yahoo!  Lots of scrap happiness to end 2011 and to begin 2012 with!  Sweet!

A personal high-five and thank you goes out to Trish Heffner, our dearly beloved Blog Train Coordinator, who keeps this train on track and has been doing so now for 3-4 years.  You are more than amazing sweet lady and I look forward to another year of train rides through Scrapland!

Here is my preview of *{Holiday} Traditions*:

Sorry, these links have expired and will be added to my shop soon!

Now, I have but one request ... *Get your scrap on!*

Stay happy, keep on scrapping and I'll see you soon ...

Thank you for stopping in!

Hi y'all!

Hope to find everyone staying happy and healthy!  I simply cannot believe that it has been two months since I last posted.  I shan't bore you with details at this moment, but will catch you up a bit as to what I've been up to since we last saw each other!  Some of you have seen me on Facebook, Twitter or Google + a time or two, but I've rarely been either of those places either!  LOL!  What?  Me?  Not being social???  Hmm ...  *blushing*

I just wished to stop in quickly to give you two pieces of news!  Yup, just two!  He, he ... (I can still ramble a good let me tell you, however, I'm on a work related flow and don't wish to interrupt it :)

Firstly, my oldest daughter, April, and her husband are not only expecting their first child in January, they are expecting a *Bundle of Baby Boy Joy*!  We are so excited for them and for all of us as we prepare to welcome another grandchild into the world and into our ever expanding family! *sigh*

Secondly, the image above is a sneak-peek at some of what I will have posted for your downloading pleasure come early tomorrow morning (Saturday, October 1st) as The October Blog Train departs the station and begins to make it's way through Scrapland!  Toot, toot ... yeah! *beaming smile*

See you at the station bright and early!  *wink*

while you were downloading ...

Each morning I enjoy a cuppa joe in this lovely souvenir coffee mug that Matt brought back from Alaska.  He brought one for Robert too!  His is more macho.  I suppose that would translate, larger!

Sorry I am behind on replies to your amazing and overwhelming number of comments y'all!  My goodness.  The old saying is true.  Be careful what you ask for!   I am overwhelmed with your generosity and thankful at the same time as your feedback really does make a difference in how my creative mind will flow!  Do y'all love the color purple, or what?  *look of amazement*

So ... while you were downloading since I posted *The Wild Ones*, we've emptied the nest! *mouth wide open and eyes popping out of head*

Yes, I cried.   Briefly.   My baby boy, John, turns 22 next month, along with his twin brother, Luke, who has lived on his own for nearly two years now!   All things in God's timing and we were all (kinda, sorta) prepared for this day of transition.   It's not like they have all moved out of the country, though we did just send off my oldest son back to Alaska for his second season in Dutch Harbor!   The twins remain in Copper and Mark is just up the hill a jaunt.  And, of course, my darling daughters are both in Washington state ... just a wee bit of a longer jaunt!  *grin*

Today is, as always, a joyful day!  While it is, indeed, Saturday, it is not a sadder day as I had thought it might be!  You will understand more fully when you take a peek at the photos below:

Matt and Max.  Not a mad Max, but a sad Max!

Photos processed in Photoshop with some amazing actions by the incredibly talented Annie Manning of Paint the Moon Photography (Salem, OR)!  I have mixed actions from her Picture Perfect Mega Set, Fresh and Miracle Makeover, along with a little tweaking of my own on the saturation, contrast and lighting.  I also used a commercial-use grunge mask from Katilin Thurzo of Rainbow Scrapbook Design.  I am not thrilled with my tweaking on the one above, but the one below turned out pretty cool as I was going for somewhat of a vintage look to compensate for the overly grainy outcome from my camera!

My camera is on about it's last point and click!  I never know what kind of results I will get, so I just keep on shooting and hope for a decent one out of the bunch!  LOL!  I'm thinking the light sensor (if I'm even close to naming it correctly) is going bad because everything will be going along okay and then without warning, everything goes dark.  I find the opposite when taking flash photos.  Sometimes the flash works wonderfully and then, poof, washout!

Do not these two photos tell all?   Well, almost.  I am not sure who appears more melancholy, my number one son (Matt) or our number two furbabe (Max)!  Anyhoo, this photo will be amongst the most memorable treasures of 2011.  Yesterday was, by far, our sadder day!  *wink*

While proofing my post once again upon publishing, it just hit me why Max was sitting on the deck howling late last night.  Sweet little man that he is.  It is too quiet!  He is used to the boys driving in-and-out a few times between work and going out.  Our furbabes never cease to amaze us in their sensitivity to their people.  Max knew Matt was leaving and you can clearly see the sadness in his eyes.  He only howls when he is missing an integral part of our family, be it human or non!  Bless his heart.

John had just moved out Wednesday night and Matt left us late yesterday afternoon.  We actually drove John to his new digs (the home of a long time friend to all four boys), which is a very short jaunt down the road!  His bedroom here at the house is still filled with clothes and other assorted belongings that will slowly make their way out!  LOL!

I took a few photos of Matt relaxing and pondering during his last few hours with us. He is laying in the hammock that he gave to me for Mother's Day.  Yes, you just know that I shall be thinking of him each time I climb in for some just me and nature time!  I love it!  And, I love my son.  *sigh*

We had a good chat during my little spontaneous photo shoot.  Why is it I never feel as though I have enough photos of those I love?   It just seems that I am forever wishing to capture moments.   It might be an age thing, where I feel that having a photo to look at will help the memories linger as I get even older and, possibly, begin to forget or get them mixed up with each other!  ROFL!  I already do that with photos from back in the day!  You know, like from years ago when the children were little!  Were they ever?  *sigh*

I have raised six beautiful and amazing children.  Or, have they raised me?   LOL!  Perhaps, a bit of both, eh?  Being a, for the most part single, Mommy, Ma, Mama, Mom, Mother (there may be a few others I am forgetting ... purposefully!) has truly been the most enriching and rewarding part of my life, which has given me an education beyond that of any college or university in existence today!  While the occupation of motherhood may not have paid me in dollars and cents, it surely has added to my account of heart wealth (we measure that in gold, don't we?) and common sense (whatever it is we perceive common to be :)  Not to mention the importance of learning how to put into practice unconditional love and an immense amount of patience!  I often wondered if there was any more patience to be worked out in me.  Oh yes ... still workin' it!  *wink*

Anyhoo, the dynamics of our family has not always fit into the norm (whatever that may be), so my emotions have been mixed.   I think at times I may confuse my joy for my children with some sadness for myself and I believe that I am finally understanding (a bit of a revelation), that in my process of always being happy for everyone else, it is perfectly fine and warranted to be happy for me too!  One might perceive that tidbit of information to resemble somewhat of a bittersweet moment!

So, today, I celebrate! We celebrate! My sweet man and I. Uhm, and I am quite sure that the young men who are the topic of this post are doing a little celebrating of their own!  *smile*

To the future ...

I shall be back soon with a little something to go along with *The Wild Ones*.  Oh, and a little head's up y'all.  On June 1st, there is going to be a bit of *Monkeying Around* going on here in Scrapland ... toot, toot ... all aboard!  The June Blog Train shall be departing and making some one hundred stops with some fun stuff for your scrapping delight!  Don't miss the train!  *wink*

chasing pirates and slowing down for a freebie!

Happy Monday y'all!

Phew!  I knew the word art portion of my contribution to the April blog train had great significance to me and I was also hoping it would be equally meaningful to most of you as well!

After finding a photo for my blog train preview of our grandson, Jace, taken from Halloween last year, I looked at both Jace and his mommy and the lyric from Norah Jone's smooth jazz recording, Chasing Pirates, popped into my head immediately!  The meaningfulness of this lyric hit me even harder this past week when my older brother, Albert came to visit for the first time in six years and the two of us drove up the hill to celebrate with Jace on his third birthday last Thursday.  This was my brother's first time to meet his grandnephew!

I sat admiring my precious grandson, balloons in hand, as he literally ran in circles in the living room as most any active little boy would be prone to doing!  Jace was donning a cute pirate t-shirt to which I remarked, "I really like your pirate shirt Jace!"  Without hesitation and still tracing circles with his tiny feet, Jace exclaimed, "I like it too!" *sigh*  Be still my grandmother's heart.  He is growing up so very quickly and speaking like a little adult.  When asked about his bulldozer, he was quick to point out that it was not simply a bulldozer, but that it is an excavator!  Oh my.  It was not so very long ago that I was cradling him in my arms and welcoming him into the world!

Robert and I often glance at each other, while visiting our children and grandchildren, with a faint look of exhaustion as we remind each other of why it is we believe that we had our children when we were younger.  Much younger.  LOL!  When mentioning this 50-year-old plus revelation to my daughter-in-law, Jessica, she agreed and tossed into the mix of the conversation the same reasoning for a young child's naptime!  *smile*

I have a very good feeling that our grandchildren shall keep us both mentally and physically challenged as time goes on ... and that my friends is a good thing!

I've been away from the computer for a week now, with the exception of an hour or two on Friday, and while I've not spent all of that time chasing pirates, I have had the pleasure of a visit from my older brother for the first time since 2004.  Albert (our father's namesake) is one of my two older brothers with whom I was not raised, have seen face-to-face less times then I can count on both hands and who lost his wife of 40 years to breast cancer June of last year.

After a lovely five days of catching up with my brother, including visits with three of my sons and extended family, I took an evening off (last night) to relax, reminisce and rejuvenate with Robert and my sister-in-law, Corinne.  I found my way back to the computer after our dinner earlier this evening to finish a layout I had started Friday night and thought I would share it with y'all and, of course, make it into a scrapatit for you to add to your collection of *Pirates Not Allowed* goodies from this month's blog train!  Are your hard drives full yet? *wink*

Our grandson, Jace, celebrating his third birthday on April 7th.  This Grandma's mind was surely racing from chasing her
darling little pirate with the camera on this wondrous day of celebration! LOL!

I shall be back to prepping kits to upload to my shop at MyMemories this week and I am also working on some new designs for another little bit of news in the making! *cat's got my tongue*

Hope to find everyone enjoying life's precious moments and scrapping each and every one of them to your heart's content!

friends. dreams. memories. thanking you all for the love!

>> Saturday, October 30, 2010

Thank you all so, so very much for the past three years of incredible memories.  I love y'all like family and whether I am posting or not, I think of you all often. *heart*

A few detailed images of *Friends. Dreams. Memories.*

Totally inspired by y'all and Kim Brodelet's September Colour Challenge at DSO!  MWAH!
Life has been busy to say the least and all has been focused on my precious family.  Seems the big boys need just as much TLC, if not more, than the little ones!  ROFL! *the proverbial chesire cat grin going on over this side of the screen* ... He, he ...

I so wish to be following my passion, but am readjusting to being content in taking the time I am allowed to sit here and play in Photoshop and with y'all! I miss you all dearly and while one can never really catch up, I hope to be doing just as much as I am able to real soon!

Carole dearest, if you just happen to find this in your inbox, I shall be making every effort to call you on Tuesday sweetheart.  I miss our chats my dear, sweet friend!

Girlfriend, I will call you this weekend! It was so good to catch up with you on Sunday!  We're both still alive!  LMBO!

Sharon, I've been meaning to email you to see how you are doing lovely lady.  Thank you for the note to let me know that you are alive and kicking.  I really was concerned.  Congrats to Jace and his new bride!  Woot, woot! My Jace just started pre-school, but I just know he'll be walking down the aisle before too many more blinks of my eyes! *sigh*

My dearest Jane in Australia, congratulations on grandbaby number eight love!  Weeeeeee ... you are amazing! *heart*

I will reply to the comments from last post next week as I'm getting things ready for the November Blog Train, *The Orient*, set to depart throughout Scrapland, Monday, November 1st!  Are you ready???  Guarantee, you won't wish to miss this one, especially if you have had traveled to the Far East, live there or have relatives that live there or have been to visit.  Really, really cute stuff!

And, I just have to catch y'all up on my grandababies!  A short and very sweet video clip of Katelyn, who is three months old this month and my precious little red-headed boy, Jace, who just started preschool.  Jace is 2-1/2 and absolutely loves going to school!  He's only been two days now and already knows the routine!  *Be still my heart*

Katelyn Rose appears to be rolling over on command!  This Grandma's heart is leaping for joy to see her precious Baby Girl interacting with her mommy! I'm so sure I heard Katelyn say, "I love you" to Grandma!  Didn't you?  *wink*

Sorry for the pixelated images.  I snagged these just a few minutes ago from Facebook and y'all know what they do to the images!  ARGH!  Ah, yah, speaking of ARGH, that is Jace's pirate face you see in two of the photos above.  I shall have to snag the video Jessica posted of him learning to do "the pirate".  Since the family's trip to Disneyland last month, Jace is totally fascinated with pirates and I have a very good feeling that he will dress up as one for Halloween!  Hmmm ... reminds me, I will have to share a few photos of his pirate makeover at Disneyland!  Behind?  Yup, that would be me!  Anyone relate with me on this?

A little quote I came up with while scrapping a page as a CT four years ago.  I just went and looked it up as I've not thought of it until now ... thinking about how quickly my grandchildren will grow up.

"What is time but the movement of one moment into the next." - Linda Walton

Yup, me, being short (okay, I am five-foot six) and sweet (most of the time!) as I've kept you waiting long enough! Not! Ha, ha, ha, ha, haaaaaaaa!

Thank you for visiting with me and for all of your love and support!  Y'all rock ... and then some!

Sorry, links have expired

Wishing you all an incredibly sweet and fabulous weekend and may it be full of scrap! *grin* You just know I'd love to see a layout or two from y'all now don't you? *wink*  I will have a way for you to share them with me, and all who visit my blog, very soon! Woot!

See you back on Monday with my contribution to the November Blog Train! Toot, toot!
